SUNDAY 9th SEPTEMBER :  Lot of Club members away again this month so a low turnout. John Balkwill left in the Jaguar for his tour of Italy earlier today.

2nd October John Balkwill has returned home safely and have since received two postcards from him: "16th September - Drove part way up Vesuvias then a 'huffy puffy' walk up to the craters edge AMAZING saw steam wafting from some fissures in the rocks. Very hot in Italy so keeping the roof on with the air conditioning going. Very expensive fuel and road tolls but I'm glad I made the effort to come" Second postcard read "18th September - Went by train to Naples and Pompei. It's huge, walked around the ruined city in swealtering heat for two and half hours even then didn't see it all. Drove to Amalfi coast, horrendous traffic with tail backs caused by lumbering tourist buses taking up all of the roads. Fabulous scenery but nowhere much to stop to take photos. Now reached Paola, hotel so close to the Mediterranean I could hear the waves lapping the beach from my verandah. Close to toe of Italy so may go to Sicily.

20th September email received from John saying he was on the ship sailing to Sicily.

13th September received an email from John Balkwill with a photograph of the Millau Viaduct Bridge. Speed limit over the bridge is 110kph but he says you need to go slow to fully appreciate the grandeur of the thing. The Jag is purring well and is now making his way to Italy. (Photo in gallery)

Email received from Simon Kane 26th March:

Had an interesting weekend as we entered one of our Minis in the Castle Combe round of the British Sprint Championships. My friend Darren Duffield drove and managed 2nd place in the Modified Production C3 Class over 1800cc. The Mini is a 1598cc but has to run if C3 class as it is supercharged. Not a bad result considering Castle Combe is a fast circuit and not particularly suited to the Mini.(Photo in gallery). Simon and Darren are due to go to Llandow on 2nd May.

SUNDAY 11th MARCH :  Because it was Mothering Sunday and some members were away this weekend there only a few members at the meeting this month but we were delighted welcome Lewis in his 1991 1275cc Mini Cooper and also Ian Robinson with his replica Shelby Cobra Daytona which he built over the past two years. Most then went on for lunch to the Trewellard Arms.

WEDNESDAY 28th FEBRUARY latest email from the brace of Dave's who are obviously enjoying themselves and some great weather. More photos in photo gallery.

THURSDAY 22nd FEBRUARY latest email from the boys reads; rode over Har Van Pass yesterday, that of Top Gear fame. Weather getting better as we go south, 27 degrees today. Motorcycles are good, just been serviced, oil changed and chains tightened at coast of just £3:00 each bike. Hotels costing between £10 and £15 per night. About half way now.

WEDNESDAY 14th FEBRUARY received the latest email from the Daves, been exploring some huge caves. In Pnog Nha heading off to Da Nang on the coastal route taken by the Top Gear trio in their Vietnam trip. Three more photos but one is rather fuzzy sorry to say.

FRIDAY 9th FEBRUARY received an email from the boys together with some photographs which are in Photo gallery.

SUNDAY 4th FEBRUARY received the following email: Travelled to Hiaphong today, 130 kms from Hanoi. Not too bad, could have done with the dirt bikes in a couple of places as the road that rough. Heading for Cat Ba Island, supposed to be very beautiful.

Members were looking forward to giving the cars a good run up the A30 to Lifton Strawberry Farm, Lifton, Devon.

SUNDAY 8th OCTOBER :  Good to see so many members for this month's meeting, most going on for lunch at Castaways, Mylor. Members were grateful to the Harbour Master for allowing members to park on the Quay. Bit of advice though, best not park under a lamp post or similar because seagulls will play havoc with the cars as Dave will have found, just hope it brings him some luck!

Fortunately the sun did come out and the event was well attended by the public.

28th JUNE :  The Club have received a couple of texts and a post card from John Balkwill who is travelling around Norway in his Jaguar XK8. He arrived safely and the car performed very well over the 1,229 mile journey from Penryn. Fuel is more expensive at £1:60 per litre, some of the tunnels are very long, one he went through was 24.5 km long. He did the Trollstiggen hairpin on Tuesday (Google it), speed limit no more than 50mph all over Norway and the scenery is spectacular. 7th July a second post card arrived from John saying that he'd "crossed the Arctic Circle, wonderful scenery. Drove all the way to Tromso before heading into Finland then driving south again. All is going well and I'm having a great time". 12th July another post card just arrived from John "Still going well and 'flying' south through Sweden now. Visited the Vasa in Stockholm today (timber built galleon) in far better condition that the Mary Rose, even though she was enclosed in mud for 333 years. Then zoomed to Linkoping and visited a Swedish Air Force museum. Loving the Swedish motorways. Enjoying the trip so much abroad that I'm considering continuing on to France and coming back on the Plymouth/Roskoff ferry. All the best John"

John has now returned home safely and has sent some photos of his trip which are now in photo gallery.

TUESDAY 13th DECEMBER :

Received the following e.mail from Larry Datson:-

Good afternoon,

I am pleased to let you know that the Marie Curie Country and Classics event is all booked for Sunday 30th July 2017.

I will be sending you an application form early in January 2017 and hope that you will be able to support us again by entering your Classic Car for this event.

Please save the date in your diary.

The 2016 event has raised a profit of £11,800 which is fantastic so thank you for your ongoing support. This means that the money raised will give Marie Curie 590 hours of nursing care in Cornwall

We hope you have a wonderful Christmas and wish you a Happy Healthy New Year and very much look forward to your company in 2017.

Thank you again for all your support.

Kind regards

Larry Datson

Friday 12th August received the following email from Simon Dobson and his son :-

In summary our month long road-trip was Old Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica, LA - with some big side trips up to drive the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb in the Colorado Rockies and also to Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Lake Powell, Area 51 and Las Vegas.

After finishing 66 at Santa Monica we drove up the Pacific Coast Highway through San Francisco, to Napa Valley, then back down to Yosemite National Park before finishing at San Francisco. I drove a total of 5800 miles - we initially had a BMW 328 for first part but then the uber cool Mustang! A thoroughly enjoyable epic adventure.

Also here is a web link to out travel blog with loads more - feel free to copy the link as some may find it interesting!

Homemade trackers found on cars after Sundays Ford Fair Silverstone - if this is going on all over England have a wee look under your car on the way home from shows..... you just never know .... I believe the police are now being involved and a return trace may be taking place so hopefully the people will be caught.

SATURDAY 9th/10th JULY 2016 : Some members went to the 43rd Historic Vehicle Gathering at the Powderham Castle Estate near Exeter. Fortunately the weather was dry for most of the weekend, which was great for Jeremy and Phil as they were camping. The weather brought out a lot of spectators to the event where they were entertained by several good live bands, plenty of food and drink available over the weekend.

SUNDAY 10th JULY 2016 : The normal monthly meeting was held at the Penventon, only a few turned up in three lovely cars, others staying away presumably because of the poor weather or to watch the British Grand Prix or Wimbledon.

SUNDAY 26th JUNE 2016  :

It was good to see so many members, guests and friends of the club go to the WEST CORNWALL MOTOR SHOW at Wendron in view of the very disappointing wet weather, we all felt sorry for the organisers having put so much work into the event.
